What Are Women Circles and What to Expect From One

You may have noticed that there are many women circles popping up everywhere lately. If you aren’t familiar with women’s circles you can read a brief history to them here! From new moon sisterhoods and full moon rituals, to divine feminine talking circles and women support groups, women are coming together more than ever for healing, support, and growth.

This is not a new phenomenon, but it is quickly growing and expanding right now as the world needs more women to be empowered in order to restore balance and heal both the Earth and humanity. The world has fell into a strictly logical, left-brain mindset for too long, and it needs the creative, kind, loving, and nurturing feminine energy.

To achieve that it all starts with each woman to heal herself and her “sisters” and men can also stand behind their women in support. It all starts with a healing of each of us individually but in a group setting.

It All Started With a Circle

Women Circles Hands In

Human have come together in circles since the beginning of time. It is an ancient way for communities to interact on a soul level, which usually happened around a fire with plenty of food shared. Besides food, community members would share stories with each other, connect deeper with their own spirituality, and celebrated holidays and traditions. People danced and sang and celebrated existence itself. They could discuss the meaning of life, or make life meaningful through authentic connection and expression.

These circle gatherings made everyone feel included, which physiologically leads to a happier, longer, and healthier life.

The majority of the world went long way away from such gatherings but they are coming back, as in the modern “disconnected world” they are needed now more than ever,

What Happens in a Circle Today

Circles today, women circles, men circles, or coed, have an intention behind them, a sharing part, and either goal making or healing involved.

The intention depends on the type of the circle it is. It can be spiritual for growth and connection, business related for masterminding, or lifestyle circle for real life support with challenging situations like divorce.

Some circles are pagan, other religious; some are psychological or supportive (like abuse victims), others are tantric, and include running nude in the woods; and many are in a modern simple setting. A good and honest circle with be transparent about its intention and expectations, so read the description or ask the organizer questions to feel comfortable.

No matter the intention, each circle works in similar ways.

It pushes you to get out of your comfort zone. It is an important step for women (and men alike) to open up to strangers, that’s how we heal the world. Doing so you are also working on being vulnerable and expressing your authentic self—and this is how we slowly change the world.

When women come together and make a commitment to each other to be in a circle with a spiritual center, they are creating a vessel of healing and transformation for themselves, and vehicle for change in their world!” wrote Jungian analyst Jean Shinoda Bolen.

What to Expect From a Circle

A circle is one of the few places in modern life where there is no hierarchy, thus it is the easiest to feel a sense of community. The energy inside the circle is different from the rest of life because of the effect ceremony and participation has on the room. Most ceremonies have an energetic change because this kind of setting actually brings out a physiological hormonal response to let you feel safe.

This energy change will help you resonate with others even if you do not become lifelong friends in one evening, you will feel close to the people you have just met.

This setting can work on multiple profound changes that you will carry with you outside the circle into your own life.
